The placement of the chain stopper and chain locker pipe & cover should be
as shown above with the chain coming into the chain stopper at the same height
as the center of the wildcat and the chain locker pipe & cover installed at
about
10 o'clock when looking down on the windlass.
PAWL TYPE CHAIN STOPPERS
 
Anchoring in rough water or riding at anchor for prolonged periods of time
places a heavy load on the anchor windlass gear train and brake mechanism. This
strain can be relieved by installing a chain stopper between the anchor windlass
and the bow roller. These chain stoppers are available in sizes to handle chains
from 1/4" to 5/8". They are chrome plated cast bronze.

CHAIN LOCKER PIPES AND COVERS
 
These chain locker pipes are for use with the vertical anchor
windlasses with wildcats for chain. On these vertical units the chain comes
aboard through the bow roller or chock, heads aft and around the chain wildcat
and then forward for a short distance. At this point the chain locker pipe and
cover provides a convenient means of passing the chain below into the chain
locker. The units are made of chrome plated bronze castings and the removable
cover has a slot in it to fit over one the the vertical chain links.
