Thank you for your interest in our horizontal windlasses with stainless steel gear cases. The line was developed from a custom windlass we built for a world cruiser. They are designed and built for the most severe and demanding usage. Let me take a moment to review some of the major components of these windlasses.
STAINLESS STEEL HOUSING: Chosen because it has no equal in the harsh marine environment. Its advantage over aluminum should be obvious to anyone who has seen what happens when you combine aluminum, salt water and electricity. Offered either powder coated white, or at an additional cost, polished to a mirror finish.
POWERFUL, OVERSIZED GEARING: The gearing inside these units is built to outlast the life of the boat.
SERIES WOUND MOTORS: While this type of motor may require a bit more amperage than the permanent magnet type, its performance and durability make it far superior for a windlass application. The speed of a series wound motor varies according to the amount of load. As the load increases the motor slows down while putting out more torque. It can handle far more abuse than the permanent magnet type.
ELECTRICAL PROTECTION: All DC systems are provided with a breaker that not only protects the system from overload, but also has a thermal sensor mounted on the motor which when overheated sends a signal to stop the motor. This system makes it almost impossible to damage the motor!
BRONZE CASTINGS: For all gypsies, friction plates, release wheels and brake parts we use rugged bronze castings. They weigh more than aluminum, but their life expectancy is far greater and they can be disassembled 15, 20 even 25 years later.
CUSTOM CAPABILITIES: We have the capability to build units with almost any combination of gypsies. We can put chain wildcats and rope gypsies on both sides or just one side. We build custom bases to fit difficult installations such as on the top of narrow bow sprits.

Pictured to the left is a size two horizontal made to fit on a bow sprit. The base is a custom fit to replace an old hand operated windlass. The new windlass utilizes three of the four old mounting holes and the hawse hole remains then same making the new installation fairly trouble free with very little modification. The finish of the windlass is polished to a mirror finish. The windlass has rope capstans on both sides and a chain wildcat on one side. Any combination is possible.
Pictured to the right t is a size two windlass mounted backwards. It has been mounted backwards to place the hawse pipes where the chain drops through into the chain locker as far aft as possible. Given the space available and the location of the chain locker mounting the windlass backwards was the only option. The finish of this windlass is powder coated white.

Pictured to the left is a size six horizontal featuring chain wildcats on both sides and a vertical capstan. The finish is polished to a mirror finish.
